The Jay Shafer Tiny House Offers a Downsize in More Ways Than One

The Jay Shafer tiny house has been featured on Yahoo, CNN, Oprah, and many other Internet and television platforms because Jay Shafer has been living the American Dream without the American debt. One only needs to take one look at the economy and second thoughts come flooding in about what we can afford and what we can’t.  So many families and retired couples need a place to call their own without laying claim to a huge monthly bill.  Many of us are curious about his way of life and even more curious about his little houses.  Why did Jay Shaffer decide to take up residence in one of these homes that many of us would call a shack?  Jay Shafer Tumbleweed Tiny House - Open House

Well, he had many reasons.  One being the environment and other reasons centered around his basic needs.  How much space did he really need?  How could he make the most out of the least amount of space?  While some people consider small houses a handicap, Jay felt he was living in luxury.  He was obviously the first to experience a tiny Jay Shafer house and he is certainly not the last.  Since 1997, more and more people have envied the simplicity of this way of living.  His homes range in sizes and rooms.  Some of the houses can even be bought ready made.  The larger ones, 2 to 3 bedrooms, have construction plans that can be purchased.

So what do people have to say about living in a tiny house?  Surprising to some is the amount of people who want to embrace this lifestyle.  In a nearby hometown of 6,000 people, I recently saw a tiny house move into a small lot between two larger houses.  My own reaction was that of excitement, because I was well aware of this idea.  These houses certainly have a charm about them.  Many people are buying into this way of living.  They are throwing off the excess space of living quarters that they don’t actually live in.  They are finding the joy of more time in their lives because less time is devoted to upkeep.  Overall, the interest in this small idea has grown larger through the years.  Are you ready to downsize?  Living in a tiny house is a lifestyle, not just a building plan.

Owning a tiny home is pretty fabulous. I live in one now, lovingly nicknamed The Fortune Cookie. It’s not a tumbleweed home, but a custom designed number. The Tiny House movement is really growing and for good reason.

My bills have dropped enormously. Because of that I work less and have more time. Thus my happiness has increased. Having more time allows me to eat better, as I have more time to cook. I have more time to visit with friends and family. It goes on from there. I recommend it. :)
